Annual Taxation Conference 2022
|
The Annual Taxation Conference 2022 on 30 July will be held as a live webinar, featuring a number of Hong Kong’s leading taxation experts.
Benjamin Chan from the Inland Revenue Department will discuss the recent changes and anticipated developments in Hong Kong’s domestic tax legislation. Michael Olesnicky on the BEPS 2.0 Advisory Panel and Gwenda Ho from PwC will then share their insights on recent court decisions and the taxation of digital assets in Hong Kong respectively. The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion on the latest developments of taxation in the digital era.

A Plus – Innovation city
|
The June issue of A Plus looks at how Hong Kong’s innovation and technology ecosystem is evolving to nurture the next unicorns. Other articles include expert panellists from the Institute’s China Taxation Conference 2022 on the latest tax trends in China; and interviews with Ricky Tsang FCPA, Deputy Chief Financial Officer of Chinachem Group, and members of the Institute’s dragon boat team.

A Plus revamp coming soon
|
Members are reminded that beginning with the September 2022 issue, A Plus will halt the production of physical copies, shifting fully online as part of the Institute’s commitment to net zero carbon emissions. Members will continue to have full access to the magazine through the digital, pdf and flipbook versions with timely enhancements to the user interface. The magazine will also shift towards a quarterly publication schedule starting next year. The last monthly publication will be the October 2022 issue with the first quarterly issue coming in January 2023.

Best Corporate Governance and ESG Awards 2022 invites entries
|
The prestigious Best Corporate Governance and ESG Awards 2022 (Awards) are now open for entry.
Listed companies and public sector/ not-for-profit organizations which have achieved high standards in corporate governance (CG) and environmental, social and governance (ESG) should apply for this opportunity. The top accolades in the Awards are the Most Sustainable Companies/ Organizations Awards, which will be presented to companies and organizations that demonstrate the overall best practices in both CG and ESG. There will continue to be separate awards to recognize entities that have performed well in either CG or ESG, while not yet achieving an equal standard in both areas. There is no entry fee and the Awards are open for entry until 10 August.

Warts and skin aging are two common skin problems. Join the free evening e-seminar organized by the Sports and Recreation Committee (SR Com) on 28 July, to hear from Dr. Kingsley Chan, Specialist in Dermatology, about the causes of these issues, and current medical and surgical treatments used to treat them.

CPA graded bowling competition

Opening of special accounts for obtaining protected information on the Companies Register maintained by the Companies Registry
|
The Companies Registry (the Registry) is now preparing for the implementation of Phase 2 of the New Inspection Regime of the Register under the Companies Ordinance (Cap. 622). The Registry is now prepared to accept applications for opening of special accounts (SAs) in advance in the name of certified public accountants (practising) or accounting professionals to make future applications for protected information electronically. In the case where the specified person is not a natural person, such as a corporate practice or a firm of certified public accountants (practising), an application may be made to open an authorized representative’s special account (ARAs) instead.
Refer to the Registry’s letter for details and the application procedure. Members may also access the following relevant documents: (i) advance application form by designated types of specified persons; (ii) advance application form by a special account user other than a natural person; (iii) requirements on supporting documents. Your application should be submitted to the Registry by 29 July. Further enquiries should be directed as specified in the Registry’s letter.
