The event assembled overseas, Mainland China and Hong Kong business and political leaders to share valuable insights on a variety of hot topics that are relevant to enterprises. Institute’s participation at a panel discussion “Championing ethical leadership amid competing pressures” |
Global Accounting Alliance (GAA) sponsored a panel discussion titled "Championing ethical leadership amid competing pressures", held by Economist Impact on 11 May. As one of the GAA member organizations, the Institute served as a part of the organizing committee, and our representative attended the event to share the latest development of Hong Kong accounting profession. Increasingly complex external pressures, generational shifts and mounting societal expectations are driving leaders of organizations to continuously evaluate internal ethics frameworks and forge new pathways to tackle ethical dilemmas. Ethics is now extending beyond a company’s legal requirements, which leads to complex definitions and varying interpretations among different companies and individuals. This initiative aims to promote ethical behavior and responsible practices among organizations, employees and stakeholders while considering their impact on society at large. Representatives from European Union, Schneider Electric, United Nations and Edelman participated in the discussion as panelists to explore the challenges and opportunities that arise from upholding business ethics for organizations globally. Watch the full panel discussion and event highlights. |

Reminder on profits tax return filing requirements |
The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) asks taxpayers to take note of the following new filing requirements when filing profits tax returns this year: 1. If taxpayers have any gross income during the basis period, they must submit a profits tax return together with all supporting documents (including financial statements and a tax computation). Small corporations and businesses with gross income not exceeding HK$2 million will no longer be permitted to file their profits tax returns without supporting documents. 2. Where appropriate, taxpayers are required to electronically file (e-file) all relevant supplementary forms and other forms to be furnished with the profits tax return under the eTAX services provided at GovHK. Furthermore, the IRD has already enhanced the eTAX services to enable more corporations and businesses (excluding sole proprietorship businesses) to voluntarily e-file their profits tax returns, together with financial statements and tax computations, in inline eXtensible Business Reporting Language (iXBRL) format. As an alternative to paper filing of profits tax return, taxpayers are encouraged to participate in voluntary e-filing through the eTAX platform, which will also enable them to enjoy a further one-month extension of the filing deadline. For details on the new filing requirements, please visit the IRD’s website. For enquiries on the eTAX services, you may contact the eTAX Helpdesk Hotline at 183 2011. For enquiries in relation to the use of the IRD iXBRL Data Preparation Tools, you may contact the IRD at ixbrl_reporting@ird.gov.hk or access e-Appointment to book a specific timeslot in advance. The IRD will contact you by phone at the booked timeslot. |
