Qualification requirement under the accountants segment of the Talent List

Interested persons who have completed/ are exempted from the Associate Level modules under the QP of the Institute; or hold a qualification conferred by the Institute, the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants or an overseas accountancy body with which the Institute has entered into a reciprocal membership agreement may submit their applications to the relevant government authority directly.

 

Support provided by the Institute

 

Other interested persons may apply with the Institute to review if they meet the specified qualification requirement under the Accountant segment of the Talent List Hong Kong at a review fee of HK$1,500:

 

  • Completed/ exempted from the Associate Level modules under the QP of the Institute

Eligibility for review 

 

To be eligible for the review, applicants have to meet the following specified requirements:

 

A) For applicants who are members of the following professional bodies that has entered into a mutual recognition agreement (MRA) with the Institute

 

 

Requirements

(i) CPA Australia (CPAA)

 

Applicants are required to have sat and passed all required professional examinations as specified under Requirement #2 and Requirement #4 in the Institute’s MRA with CPAA as below:

 

Requirement #2:

  • You have passed the CPA Australia CPA Program, including:

All compulsory core segments

(i) Corporate Governance and Accountability/ Ethics and Governance,

(ii) Business Strategy and Leadership/ Global Strategy and Leadership, and

(iii) Reporting and Professional Practice/ Strategic Management Accounting)

 

Mandatory segments (required by the MRA)

(i) Financial Reporting and Disclosure/ Financial Reporting

(ii) Financial Risk Management, and

(iii) Assurance Services and Auditing/ Advanced Audit and Assurance

 

Requirement #4:

  • You have passed the Institute’s aptitude test on Hong Kong taxation

(ii) Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)

Applicants are required to have sat and passed all required ACCA professional examinations as specified under Requirement #2 in the Institute’s MRA with ACCA, including other compulsory papers.

 

Requirement #2:

  • You have passed the ACCA professional examination including the following and other compulsory papers:

 

 

ACCA Qualification offered before September 2018

ACCA Qualification effective from September 2018

i)

P7 – Advanced Audit and Assurance or equivalent paper in previous syllabus

AAA – Advanced Audit and Assurance

ii)

P6 (HKG) – Advanced Taxation (Hong Kong) or equivalent paper in previous syllabus

ATX (HKG) – Advanced Taxation (Hong Kong)

  • ACCA members who have examination papers exemptions might have their fulfillment assessed separately by the Institute based on their qualifications acquired from a tertiary institution.

B) For other applicants

 

Other applicants are required to have: 

  • Bachelor’s or above degree(s) in accounting, finance, business administration, economics or other relevant disciplines.
  • Sufficient and relevant coverage of the learning outcomes of all 10 Associate Modules of the QP by virtue of the applicants’ prior study for qualification(s) acquired from recognized tertiary institutions and recognized professional accountancy examinations. Module exemption is assessed on the basis of the curriculum of the academic programme(s) and recognized professional accountancy examinations completed. Option for completing non-exempted QP modules 

 

Those who do not qualify for all 10 module exemptions at the Associate Level, may consider to register as QP students (details are available here), and fulfill the non-exempted module(s) through passing the examinations offered by the Institute.
